The main feature of the new macOS Sequoia that users liked was iPhone mirroring macOS Sequoia. The way this feature works, methods of connecting, and the compatibility with Apple devices will be discussed further in the article.

What is iPhone Mirroring in macOS Sequoia

iPhone Mirroring is a feature that lets you mirror your iPhone screen on your MacBook display and control it directly from your laptop. You can use the mouse, keyboard, or trackpad to control your device, launch apps, reply to messages, and perform other actions on your iPhone right from your MacBook, even when your mobile device's screen is locked.

How To Set Up iPhone Mirroring macOs Sequoia

Before you start iPhone Mirroring on your device, you need to make sure that your devices meet the system requirements for iPhone Mirroring. Please note that mirroring is only available on devices running the latest operating systems: macOS Sequoia for MacBooks and iOS 18 for iPhones.

Step 1 - iPhone Mirroring in macOS Sequoia: How To Use

Thus, to launch iPhone mirroring on a MacBook, you need to do the following:

  1. Open an iPhone mirroring app on your Mac.
  2. Log in with your password or TouchID.
  3. Wait for the devices to connect.

Open The iPhone Mirroring App On Your Mac

If you have macOS Sequoia installed, the iPhone Mirroring app will already be available in the list of apps in Launchpad by default. If you don't see it, you can use the Mac's Spotlight Search in the upper-right corner of your screen or press Cmd + Space to quickly access the app.

Enable iPhone Mirroring macOS Sequoia with password or TouchID

To start using the app, make sure your MacBook and iPhone are placed near each other and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned on on both devices. Also, be sure to sign in with the same Apple ID on both devices, otherwise the feature won't be available.

The iPhone Mirroring app will automatically detect your iPhone and establish a connection. A window with the iPhone interface appears on your Mac desktop, and you'll need to authenticate by entering a password or using Touch ID (if it's enabled) to get started.

The first time you launch the iPhone mirroring app macOS Sequoia, you'll be prompted to set up an automatic connection to your iPhone when you use the feature. You can either connect automatically for convenience, or disable this option. If you disable automatic connection, you will have to enter a password every time you want to set up the connection.

Wait for the devices to connect

It may take a few minutes to connect the devices, especially when you connect them for the first time. During this time, the iPhone Mirroring app splash screen will appear. After the connection is successfully completed, you'll see the iPhone's home screen on the Mac's display and can control your smartphone directly from your laptop.

How To Use iPhone Mirroring macOS Sequoia

You can use the function easily and simply using the trackpad, MacBook keyboard, or connecting a mouse, which is very convenient if you are, for example, typing long text or editing a video as opposed to doing it directly on the iPhone.

With the iPhone Mirroring feature, you can perform many tasks directly through your MacBook, including:

  • Browse social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Watch videos: YouTube, TikTok, videos from streaming services (subject to DRM restrictions).
  • Send messages: via iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, and other messengers.
  • Answer calls: Receive or make calls directly from your Mac.
  • Use mobile applications: any programs installed on your iPhone.
  • View photos and videos: work with the iPhone gallery.
  • Get busy: use note-taking apps, organizers, or documents.
  • Play mobile games without having to pick up your iPhone.

Notifications in iPhone Mirroring

Don't worry about missing important notifications from your iPhone - iPhone Mirroring makes them available on your Mac. Notifications appear in the Notification Center in the upper right corner of your screen, next to your Mac notifications. You can tell iPhone notifications by the phone icon that appears in the lower right corner of the notification itself.

To open a notification, you don't need to launch the iPhone Mirroring app separately. Just tap on the notification you need, and you will automatically move to the corresponding application on your iPhone.

Standby mode

This iPhone mirroring app on macOS sequoia is very convenient: you can do what you need to do directly from your MacBook, for example, while your iPhone is charging. Or, if you're on the phone and need to find important information stored on your iPhone at the same time, you can easily do it through your laptop without interrupting the call.

Move files

The Quick Move feature is already available. With mirroring, you can transfer files between your MacBook and iPhone without using AirDrop or Bluetooth. For example, when you open your iPhone gallery on your MacBook, you can easily transfer the photos or videos you want directly to your laptop desktop. This makes data exchange as simple and convenient as possible, since you don't need to interact directly with your iPhone.

Limited functions of iPhone Mirroring

Incompatibility with other Apple features

Mirroring doesn't work if your Mac uses AirPlay, iPad's Sidecar feature, or Continuity Camera to turn your iPhone into a webcam.

Restrictions for streaming services

Apps like Hulu or Netflix don't display videos because of DRM protection, in this case a black screen appears.

Limited window settings

You can't manually resize the window, and the orientation changes automatically only for programs that support it.
