The new MacBook Air M4 has already hit the market, so let’s take a look at what this new product offers. In this article, we will learn when it became available and what opportunities it opened up for users.

MacBook Air M4 release date

The official announcement was made on March 5, 2025, and sales started on March 12, so the device is already available for users.

MacBook Air M4: Specifications

The new MacBook Air is powered by Apple’s M4 core chip from the M4 series. More powerful versions, such as M4 Pro, M4 Max, and M4 Ultra, are reserved for MacBook Pro and desktop computers such as iMacs.

In the MacBook Air M4, the base chip is available in two versions depending on the storage amount:

  • The 256 GB or 512 GB model has a 10-core processor (4 performance cores and 6 energy-efficient cores), an 8-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 16 GB of RAM.
  • The 1 TB or 2 TB models have a 10-core processor (4 high-performance cores and 6 energy-efficient cores), a 10-core GPU, and 16 GB of RAM.
All versions of the M4 chip have a memory bandwidth of 120 GB/s, support hardware ray tracing acceleration, and mesh shading technology.
In real-world use, the M4 chip handles everyday tasks like photo editing in Photoshop, video editing in Final Cut Pro, or multitasking with dozens of browser tabs effortlessly, while AI features in macOS 15 speed up text processing and automation.

Design and Display

The MacBook Air M4 retains its iconic thin and light design—1.24 kg for the 13-inch model and 1.51 kg for the 15-inch version—making it a top choice for portability. It features a Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2560x1664 (13-inch) or 2880x1864 (15-inch) and a brightness of up to 500 nits. The battery lasts up to 18 hours, perfect for all-day use on the go.

MacBook Air M4: How much it costs

There is no significant price difference between the MacBook Air M3 and MacBook Air M4. Moreover, the base model has become even more affordable than its predecessor. Here are the current prices for the MacBook Air M4:

  • $999 for a 13-inch MacBook Air M4 with a 10-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage.
  • $1,199 for the 15-inch MacBook Air M4 with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage.
Compared to the MacBook Air M3, which started at $1,099 for the 13-inch model (8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 8 GB RAM) and $1,299 for the 15-inch model, the new model offers a lower starting price and twice the RAM in the base configuration. Additional features such as a powerful M4 chip and support for artificial intelligence technologies make it even more attractive at this price point.

M4 MacBook Air: Final thoughts

As of today, the MacBook Air M4 is already available for sale, and we know all the key details. It comes in a new Sky Blue color alongside the classic Silver, Midnight, and Starlight, and features an updated 12-megapixel Center Stage camera. Thanks to the M4 chip, the device is much faster than its predecessors, especially for those upgrading from M1 or Intel models. The main focus is on artificial intelligence features supported by macOS 15. Early users highly evaluate its speed and silent operation, though some note that 256 GB of storage might feel limiting for pros. Compared to rivals like the Dell XPS 13, it stands out for its ecosystem integration and efficiency, despite fewer ports.
